Become a Certified Dry Stone Waller, or increase your level!  Dry Stone Wall Certification is a must have for the professional waller or landscaper, and fun to have for homeowner and hobbyist too.  Each test involves dismantling and rebuilding a specified section of wall in a 7 hour time limit.  Level 3 and 4 also include untimed feature builds.  Each level increases substantially in difficulty.  Becoming a certified waller will help you build better and faster.  As more and more clients become educated on the benefits of using certified wallers, it is becoming a needed credential for professionals.  Those who become Level 2 certified, can then take the instructors certification course and teach stone walling.

The Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britain (DSWA) is the certifying organization.  The DSWA is the first and oldest dry stone certification scheme in the world, and has become the international standard for dry stone walling.

The registration deadline is April 15th.  But it usually fills up long before then, so sign up early!

How to prepare for your test:

Level 1:

Depending on the amount of experience you have, you may need more or less preparation for this test.  The Level 1 test has an average 90% pass rate.  If you have questions please contact us.

  • Completely read the level 1 test page
  • Take at least Level 1 Workshop.  We recommend taking the Test Prep Workshop
  • Take a Pre-Test to practice and make sure your ready.
  • Rest the day before the test, sleep plenty and eat well.

Level 2:

Most wallers, even experienced ones, need to do a lot of preparation in order to pass level 2.  The Level 2 test has an average 60% pass rate.  Don’t expect to be able to pass this without preparation. If you have questions please contact us.

We don’t recommend taking the 2 day workshop that precedes the test.  Instead take a test prep workshop and one or more pre-tests.

Level 3 & 4:

Upper level tests take lot of preparation in order to pass.  Make sure to read all you can about the test and talk to as many wallers as you can who are already certified at that level.  Pre-testing is invaluable!  If you are considering taking an upper level test please get in touch with us for additional information.
