3.70 Walling Day

3.70 Walling Day Overview:

Walling days are your chance to practice walling. Come join some skilled DSWA-GB wallers and Certified Master Craftsmen at The Stone Trust Center on Scott Farm. Walling day instructors present the concepts, provide focused instruction as needed, and allow participants to practice. All participants need to be DSWA-GB certified Level 1 or higher.

Come practice walling, learn new styles, and network with fellow wallers. Informal and fun, participants will build some wall, along with basic features like cheek ends, in a well-staged environment. At least one instructor will be on site to present concepts, provide support, and answer questions.

During 2020’s Walling Day we focused on Irish and Scottish styles. These types of walling are tremendously fast to build, incredibly durable, and known for their rugged appearance.  Because of the fast build rate, and use of larger and less refined stone shapes, they are often a less expensive for option for wall construction. Participants choose to build one style or to work shorter sections of both.

This is a great opportunity for professionals to expand their repertoire and gain portfolio pictures of the sections they build.  Homeowners with historic walls learn how to make use of the larger stones common in New England Stone Walls.

Critical Information:

  • The walling day will run 9:00am-5:00pm participants may come for only part of that time.
  • Participants should wear boots and work clothes (have plenty of layers for cool weather)
  • What to bring:  gloves, safety glasses, water, and lunch.  (There is no where close enough to buy lunch with in the lunch break)
  • Participants should bring their own tools

Detailed info will be emailed to you once you register including what to bring and directions.
