“We’re Not Broken” – Experience the blending of traditions, music and dry stone walling

Think back to an early evening in August. Imagine yourself at a dance party at the Stone Trust Center at the Scott Farm in Dummerston, Vermont. It happened! Musician Rachel Bell brought Eloise & Co, a collaboration with Becky Tracy and others who move souls and feet with acoustic music rooted in contra dance and traditions rooted in the Old and New Worlds. They came to make a video.

Rachel says, “We are still feeling so grateful for the warm welcome you gave to my band Eloise & Co. for filming at Scott Farm in August. That music video is still being edited, and I’ll send it along when it’s done. In the meantime, I thought you might enjoy this one that we filmed at Moon Bridge. What a stunning location. I’ve become a huge fan of Jared Flynn’s work! And we feel so lucky to have such beauty right here at home.”

Rachel and Becky achieve musical virtuosity through years of study and practice. Jared achieves virtuosity in stone the same way. Eloise & Co.’s Moon Bridge video “We’re Not Broken” blends the two. This moving piece combines traditional music and traditional craftsmanship. It draws the threads of the past into the contemporary world. A tradition endures because people like you learn what’s necessary to carry it on.

Preserving tradition requires many tools, one of which is money. The Stone Trust is fortunate to have received a $30,000 challenge grant from a very generous supporter. The grant matches every gift made to the Stone Trust between now and the end of the year. To date $11,500 in much appreciated contributions to the Annual Fund has been matched. Your generous donation helps pave the way for future Master Craftsmen, wallers like Jared Flynn whose knowledge is essential to preserving the art and craft of dry stone walling. With your contribution you build the potential for enduring works of stone art to grace the landscape, framing nature’s immediacy in the eternal reality of stone.

We are grateful for your matching gift to the Stone Trust’s Annual Fund. Donate online or send a check to The Stone Trust, 707 Kipling Road, Dummerston, Vermont 05301. All contributions are tax deductible. Thanks very much for your support.
