On Saturday May 14, Stone Trust professional members Pete Ryder, Andras Lazar, and Mike Papile volunteered their time and expertise, making it possible for the Stone Trust to participate in the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance Old Buildings and Trades Fair. Over 300 people came to Sanborn Mills Farm in Loudon, New Hampshire to observe traditional tradespeople in action. They saw demonstrations including carpentry and timber-framing, window-making and repair, masonry repointing, plasterwork and repair, fiber arts and stone wall building!
Pete led the crew in laying the foundation for the curved wall end that ultimately will connect to a road wall near the entrance. Mike oversaw stone selection. And Andras helped everybody keep on pace! We all enjoyed talking with the many people interested in historic preservation about the history and tradition of dry stone walls and techniques for their construction.
Thanks to the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance for inviting our participation and to Andras, Mike, and Pete for making it happen!
