This workshop is perfect for the homeowner, contractor, or enthusiast looking to start learning about how to build dry stone walls. If you are looking to learn more before starting to build a wall at home or trying to educate yourself before hiring someone else to build a wall. This is the workshop for you. It is great introduction for landscapers who are looking to get into dry stone walling.

This workshop is located at our Broadview Farm training facility at 2 Lamson Road
Mont Vernon NH.  This site is just an hour outside of Boston, but is great rural site with a historic feel.

Over the course of the day each participant will build about 25 sq. ft. of wall (one side), using local field stone. Participants will learn all the basic rules of structural walling that can be applied to any type of stone and project. The different type of stone used is the primary difference between this workshop and the indoor introductory workshops.

This workshop will follow the typical one-day format. It is suited to beginners and those with previous experience. The workshop will run 9am-5pm with 1/2 hour lunch break. This workshop is open to everyone.

If you have ever wanted to learn about building dry stone walls, this is the place to start.

Ron Neil has decades of experience in masonry from leading large crews on commercial buildings to small jobs. He now runs his own company and got involved with dry stone walling in 2016.

About Broadview Farm

Broadview Farm in Mont Vernon NH hosts Stone Trust walling workshops throughout the year. Located nearby to services and recreation, the training site is located amidst fields and woodland in historic Mont Vernon.

The site includes multiple training walls that are periodically rebuilt in workshops as well as a number of dry stone features that are more permanent.  Two free-standing training walls host multiple types of workshops. Quarried Stone from Alstead NH comprises the 40’ all while local NH fieldstone comprises the 65’ long training wall.  A workshop fieldstone retaining wall was added in 2018 as well.

A number of feature builds are more permanent at the site.

  • Arched bridge
  • Tall garden wall
  • Bee Keep (construction in process)
  • Curved Walls (Level 3 feature builds)

Additional elements being added in anticipation of 2021 workshops include 4 sets of steps/stairs and 12 flagging stations.

Directions

Broadview Farm is located at 2 Lamson Road in Mont Vernon NH. From the general store in the center of Mont Vernon proceed north on Rt 13 one mile. Turn left on Lamson Road and proceed 200′. Follow signs left into the field access road.

Manchester Airport (MHT) is approximately 30 Minutes from the training site.

Lodging

There are many national hotel chains in Merrimack, Manchester, and Nashua. The Merrimack hotels are 25 minutes from BVF, while others are approximately 30 minutes away. Both Manchester and Nashua have a wide variety of dining and entertainment options.

An upscale option is the Bedford Village Inn in Bedford NH.
