Workshop Level: 1.   Up to 16 participants with 2 Certified Instructors. Open to everyone. $245

This workshop is perfect for the homeowner or enthusiast looking to start learning about how to build dry stone walls.   If you are looking to learn more before starting to build a wall at home or trying to educate yourself before hiring someone else to build a wall.  This is the workshop for you.  It is great introduction for landscapers who are looking to get into dry stone walling.

Over the course of the day each participant will build about 25 sq. ft. of wall (one side), using natural round fieldstone. You will learn all the basic rules of structural walling that can be applied to any type of stone and project.

This workshop will follow the typical one-day format.  It is suited to beginners and those with previous experience.  The cost is $270.  The workshop will run 8:30am-4:30pm with 1/2 hour lunch break.  This workshop is open to everyone, but the intended audience is homeowners, enthusiasts, and beginning landscape contractors.

Licensed Landscape Architects can receive 7.5 LA CES credits for participating in this workshop.

INSTRUCTORS:

MICHAEL MURPHY will be the lead instructor for this workshop.  He is a frequent instructor at The Stone Trust and he is a member of the Board of Directors. He is a DSWA-GB Certified Intermediate Waller and certified Instructor, who is currently working on attaining his Advanced Certification.  Michael is a DSWA Certified Instructor, and professional member. He is also a Dry Stone Conservancy (DSC) Journeyman Waller. Michael has worked extensively in Vermont and Michigan, and is the owner of The Nature of Stone. He is an excellent instructor, with a joy of walling and teaching.  After taking a workshop with Michael you will be back for more!

TORBEN LARSEN of Windham Growers is an experienced landscaper, stoneworker, and artist.  He is a  DSWA-GB Certified Intermediate Waller and certified Instructor.  Torben after many years of working in the landscape industry, Torben is excited to part of The Stone Trust as an instructor!

Located on Scott Farm, The Stone Trust Center is home to North America's only indoor dry stone walling training and certification facility.  Outside is the Master Feature Park with all the features that can be used in the Advanced and Master Craftsman tests.  There is also a mini walling park where visitors can practice stacking small stones at table height.   Click for Directions and Transportation information.   The Landmark Trust USA has 3 restored historic homes available as places to stay.   The Sugarhouse sleeps 2, the Kipling Carriage House sleeps 4, and the Dutton Farm House sleeps 8 people.
