Gilsum Stone Arch Bridge

Text and Photos by Pete Ryder

Southwestern NH is home to remarkable dry stone bridges many of which are still in use. Most of these were constructed in the later half of the 1800’s. The Stone Trust Bridge Tour will introduce you to several of them. As a taster, check out the Gilsum Stone Arch Bridge. 155 years after construction, it is still carrying everyday traffic. We will share the history of these bridges as well as examine the design and materials used as we navigate the byways of rural NH. Tour space is limited.
