Learning the basics of two stones on one; one stone on two! (Dec. 14, 2019)

From Pete Ryder, President of The Stone Trust Board of Directors:

“I had the privilege of co-instructing our One-Day Introductory workshop with Michael Weitzner this past Saturday at The Stoneyard in Littleton MA. Sixteen students gathered to learn how to build a stone wall using only stone, friction and gravity. After an introduction to the concepts, the group got to work by tearing down a perfectly good 50 foot stone wall! By mid-morning there may have been more than one student wondering just what they had gotten themselves into.

As we worked through the remainder of the morning, the basic concepts of two stones on one – one stone on two, long way in, heart thoroughly, and follow your line and batter began to make sense. We ascended course by course until we had rebuilt the entire wall. As the afternoon moved along a feeling of satisfaction grew with each stone on the wall. As an instructor, I am always thrilled by the result. New skills, new friends and a new wall – a pretty good outcome!”

More Introductory Workshops are lined up for next year. Check out our 2020 Workshop schedule, with courses still being added.
